The Walter Seymour Award was introduced to encourage the showcasing of the “rarer” Gundog Spaniels – the Clumber, the Field, the Irish Water Spaniel and the Sussex; those breeds not represented by a breed club and, therefore, not numerically strong enough to hold Specialty events. The Sporting Spaniel Society committee nominates which Shows (usually 6) in NSW where the Award will be made. The nominated Shows always includes the Sporting Spaniel event in April and in 2007, the Award will be made at Sydney Royal for the first time. A suitably inscribed silver platter and a rosette is being donated by the Sporting Spaniel Society for this inaugural event.
The winner of the Award at Sydney Royal 2007 (pictured right) was the Clumber Spaniel Ch/Can Ch Whitehawk Nonsuch Windsor (Imp Can) who was the automatic winner as he won Group 4.
